FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CUMMINS TIER 4 INTERIM TECHNOLOGY SHOWCASED AT AG CONNECT QSB6.7 Ready For 2011 On Display With Integrated Air Intake To Exhaust Aftertreatment ORLANDO, Fla. (Jan. 12, 2010) - Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) showcased Tier 4 Interim technology for 2011 with a QSB6.7 integrated air intake-to-exhaust aftertreatment system displayed for the first time to the agriculture industry at AG CONNECT, Jan. 12-15, 2010. The 6.7-liter engine incorporates cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and Cummins Particulate Filter as core technologies for the QSB6.7, QSL9 and QSX platforms above 174 hp (130 kW) to meet U.S. EPA Tier 4 Interim and European Stage IIIB off-highway emissions regulations in January 2011. Cummins Tier 4 system for farming applications will provide a wide range of equipment such as tractors, sprayers and windrowers with premium performance, more power and improved engine response compared with Tier 3. Tier 4 enhancements build on proven Tier 3/Stage IIIA engine performance and include Cummins Direct Flow(TM) air filtration for a more compact installation with the same filtration efficiency. The cooled-EGR system is complemented by Cummins VGT(TM) Turbocharger with a sliding-nozzle design. This continuously varies the air-flow boost to precisely match engine rpm and load demands. The Tier 4 Interim engines also feature a crankcase ventilation system with a high-efficiency coalescing filter to maintain ultra-clean engine operation. "We've been able to leverage our worldwide experience in key Tier 4-enabling technologies and have identified the right technology for the agriculture industry for 2011," said Rob Neitzke, Director of Global Off-Highway Business. "We work with the equipment manufacturers to ensure that this technology for Tier 4 is a fully optimized installation, enabling our customers to experience higher levels of productivity with their equipment. Along with many OEMs, Cummins understands the proven benefits of an EGR and particulate filter solution for Tier 4 Interim. By utilizing advanced fuel injection systems and cooled EGR we are able to increase the power output of the QSB6.7 from 275 hp (205 kW) to 300 hp (224 kW). We are also able to achieve up to 5 percent better fuel efficiency without the need for diesel exhaust fluid, making it possible for farmers to see lower operating costs and enhanced performance with their Tier 4 machines," added Neitzke. Cummins Tier 4 Interim solution for 2011 provides clean diesel technology, achieving the required 90 percent reduction in Particulate Matter (PM) with Cummins Particulate Filter replacing the exhaust muffler, providing equivalent sound reduction and rugged design that is hardened to withstand severe shock loads and vibration. The cooled-EGR system enables the required 45 percent reduction in Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) to be accomplished with the lowest cost of operation.
